Sheffield Wednesday suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swansea City on Sunday, but Jacob Murphy was one of a few players who came away with credit. The 25-year-old has impressed in a makeshift role under Garry Monk since football returned and shone at the Liberty Stadium despite the negative result – he frequently ran at his opponents and grabbed an assist for his troubles.

I think we’re missing a trick with Jacob Murphy!! There’s a very decent young player in there who deserves a chance !!

Against Swansea, Murphy played for 90 minutes, had 46 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 69.6% of his 23 passes, created two chances, had two shots with 50% hitting the target, whipped in seven crosses, attempted seven long balls with 57% finding a teammate, made one tackle, had one dribble, made one clearance, gave away one foul and won one free-kick.
The £3.15m-rated wide-man joined Wednesday on a season-long loan from Newcastle United last summer and has gone on to make 39 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals with four assists.
Murphy has one year remaining on his deal back at Newcastle and looks unlikely to be a regular next season (last appearance for the Magpies came in January 2019), so Wednesday might have a chance to bring him back to Hillsborough for 2020/21.
