David Moyes’ Everton are the latest club to be linked with the services of highly-rated Wednesday defender Madjid Bougherra according to reports today.

The Algerian international was subject to a £1.3m offer from Premiership strugglers Charlton Athletic last week which was rejected by the Owls, while Reading were also reported to be keen on his signature.

But Wednesday are reluctant to sell for £1.3m, despite only buying Bougherra in the summer for £200,000, and are keen to hold out for a price closer to the £3m mark for their hottest prosepect.

And it wouldn’t be the first time the Toffees boss has paid big money for a player from the lower leagues – with former Wolves defender Joleon Lescott making the move to Goodison Park in the summer for £5m.

Bougherra has already spoken of his desire to play in the Premiership ‘as quickly as possible’ but boss Brian Laws has insisted he would be ‘wasting his time’ to go and speak to any clubs about a move for £1.3m – insisting a move would cost much more.
