With Wednesday fans looking for good news across a slow summer so far, the announcement of this game has certainly ramped up a little bit of excitement ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and they are scheduled to visit Hillsborough on Saturday, July 28th for a 3pm kick-off.
The Estadio de la Ceramica based outfit, qualified for the Europa League group stages with a fifth-place finish in the Spanish top-flight last season and they are a regular feature in European competitions. Last season’s adventure saw them top Group A in the Europa League before going out over two legs to French Lyon in the knockout stage.
They last qualified for the Champions League competition back in the season of 2015/16 having secured a fourth-place finish in La Liga.
This game becomes our third pre-season fixture of the summer and the plum home tie will be a real test for Jos Luhukay’s boys with the Championship season beginning one week later.
