Daniel Duke has stepped down from his position as manager of Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC to be replaced by Andy Burgess at the helm.

Duke was the longest serving member of staff at the club, in his third year as manager and being on the staff for the last seven years.

But, with the club in a poor position in the league table, Duke felt it was the right down to step down from his position today.

“With the club perilously close to the bottom of the league I feel it might be time now to step aside and let a new face take on the task,’ he said.

‘I believe it is right for the club and girls that I do this, before it becomes to late. I have lived and breathed SWWFC for seven years and it is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in my footballing career.

‘I believe that a new injection of fresh ideas might assist the team move up to their rightful position and hopefully that extra step into the Premiership.’

Andy Burgess will take charge of the club for the clash with Leicester on Sunday, kick-off 1pm.

And he can’t wait to get started, saying: ‘I am delighted and privilidged to have been given the opportunity and cannot wait to get going, starting tomorrow night at training and Sunday at Leicester City.
