Sheffield Star reporter James Shield tweeted out a message on social media yesterday that definitely put the cat amongst the pigeons.
He drew light to speculation on the rumour mill suggesting that Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was tempted with making a move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Sam Winnall.
Re: Sheffield United's reported interest in Sam Winnall, I understand Chris Wilder has been monitoring the Sheffield Wednesday centre-forward since the beginning of last season. #sufc #twitterblades

The 27-year-old came in from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee, speculated to be tiny, back in January 2017 but he only made 18 appearances in total with a return of four goals and there were plenty of whispers as to why we loaned him out with talk of a training ground bust-up.
Tempers seem to have settled as he is back with us following his spell at Derby County and his words were positive as he overcomes the injury that effectively ended his season, but it seems United have been keeping a watchful eye on him and this move would certainly light the proverbial touchpaper.
A number of Owls fans were pretty unequivocal in their responses to the suggestion when it broke – although others saw merits in the deal if one could be done.
@Winnall19 don't go to sufc do u know u will get abuse. Please stay and score goals to help us they are our rivals And luhukay will give u game time .

The irony of that they have money and are looking into buying our 6th/7th choice striker is quite funny tho. ????????

If they want winnall let them have him…. but make them pay the going rate. Simple. #Swfc #sufc #twitterblades

Winnall to Blades would be priceless literally are 6th choice striker last season, even swapped the lad for Butterfield hahaha. If we could get a few million of them for him it’d be great business.
