Joost van Aken has an uncertain future at Sheffield Wednesday after falling down the pecking order and being loaned out last summer.

The 26-year-old has spent the season at Vfl Osnabruck and has played in all but two 2. Bundesliga games under Daniel Thioune, but it remains to be seen if he’s got a chance of featuring under Garry Monk in 2020/21.

Despite his form taking a hit in his short-lived spell in the Wednesday first-team, a lot of supporters from Sheffield Wednesday Fans Forum are keen to see him return.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Chris Allport: “I honestly think he deserves another opportunity. A good pre-season and consistent run and we might just get a good player, or at worst a decent squad player.”

Dave Bacon: “I would give him another chance. I would also look for a better leader then Tom Lees.”

Ben Haddon: “I like him.”

Rich Hollingworth: “Should be 4th choice next season.”

Jordan Harrold: “Best ball-playing centre-half we have.”

Simon Andrew Haley: “We may be able to mould him into the player we thought we were buying. Maybe a loan spell in England would give him his confidence back.”

Adam Eccles: “Deffo give (him) another shot. Try him in a back 5. Would be interesting.”

Martin Worth: “I’d say give him a shot with pre-season next year. Probably not first choice but a good sub.”

Van Aken joined the Owls from Heerenveen in 2017 and has gone on to make 16 appearances in all competitions. The 26-year-old suffered a hamstring injury midway through his debut season and fell out of favour the following campaign.

He could be useful under Monk, however, as David Bates will return to Hamburg after his failed loan spell, leaving a void for a squad player to fill. Tom Lees’ poor form could see his place in the side up for grabs too, so supporters don’t want to close the door on van Aken.
