According to the Sheffield Star, Joost van Aken is still suffering from a concussion which has kept him out of action in recent weeks for VfL Osnabrück. The 2. Bundesliga season resumed in mid-May, but the 26-year-old has only featured in two of their last six league games due to a head injury.

Who did Sheffield Wednesday sign Josh Windass on loan from?

Van Aken played a full 90 minutes in Osnabrück’s 1-1 draw with Arminia Bielefeld (May 17) and 4-2 defeat to Hannover 96 (May 23), but he was absent for their 2-0 win over Greuther Furth (May 26) due to concussion and missed Osnabrück’s 2-2 draw with Jahn Regensburg (May 29), 0-0 draw with VfB Stuttgart (June 7) and 2-0 defeat to VfL Bochum (June 13) as a result.

Alex Miller of the Sheffield Star said earlier in June that van Aken was still struggling with his head injury, so little progress appears to have been made since May. Osnabrück haven’t fared too bad without him however, losing only one of their last four games, so it remains to be seen if they really need the centre-back.

Van Aken is due to return to Wednesday this summer, but it’s unknown if he’ll see out the last year of his deal at Hillsborough or be moved on.
