Midfielder Giles Coke has this week returned to Wednesday after completing a loan spell at npower League One rivals Bury.

The Shakers were keen to keep the former Motherwell man and extend his loan deal at Gigg Lane, and Wednesday were set to allow him to stay.

Instead Coke has opted for a return to Hillsborough to try and fight for a first-team spot.

Bury boss Richie Barker told the Bury Times: “I tried as hard as I could, within reason, to get him to stay. But he`d made his decision and he was not going to change his mind. It was a fairly short conversation.

“It was all down to Giles. Sheffied Wednesday were quite happy for him to stay, but he feels that he wants to prove to (manager) Gary Megson that he`s worth a place in the team.’

Coke has kept his options open and would only be too happy to return to Bury if things don’t work out at S6 in the coming weeks.]

He made 10 starts for Bury, scoring three goals in the process and generally impressing during his loan stint in Lancashire.
