It turned into a very good weekend for Sheffield Wednesday fans as we saw Garry Monk’s side make the trip to the Riverside Stadium and take a very comfortable victory over our gaffer’s former club, Middlesbrough.
Following an early fifth minute own goal, Dominic Iorfa, Adam Reach and Steven Fletcher had established a 4-1 lead before we even reached the half time break, and although there were no further goals in the second half, we’d already done the job to take all three points.
With most Wednesday fans simply celebrating that, the cheekier amongst the fanbase, there was further reason for celebration on Sunday afternoon as Newcastle United saw themselves roundly hammered 5-0 by Leicester City.
With plenty still not forgiving former manager Steve Bruce for the way he jettisoned us so quickly once his hometown club came calling, for many it was just another example of ‘karma’ in the game – or a damn good excuse for some banter.
Ashley paid us millions to take Bruce, and we paid nothing for monk, chansiri at his finest ???? #swfc

I think we got the better deal with Monk. I was really pleased when we got Bruce but after Jos he was a gift. I'm hoping NUFC are relegated as we're promoted then we can wave to him on the way past. How well have we done considering we were dumped 2 weeks pre season #swfc

Can we all just take a minute, gather together, reflect on what’s happening in the world then collectively laugh and point at Steve Bruce! #swfc #VardyisanOwl @vardy7

Thoughts and prayers go to Newcastle Utd at this sad time of having a deluded chairman and a unloyal cabbage as a manager #swfc #NUFC pic.twitter.com/IPCWiS2G2q
