Owls boss Paul Sturrock has been boosted by the news that on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson is set to extend his loan contract with the Owls until the end of the season.

The England under-21 stopper’s deal at Hillsborough is set to expire after this weekend’s crunch relegation six-pointer with Crewe, and Sturrock is keen to keep Carson until the end of the season.

Sturrock said: ‘He’s done extremely well and it would be great to extend the deal. We’ve been in talks already and we’ll talk again this week.’

The Owls have been unbeaten since the arrival of the former Leeds United youngster – winning twice and picking up two draws. Among his performances he picked up the man of the match award in the 3-1 away victory at Wolves.

Carson is unlikely to break into the Liverpool starting eleven with him being down the pecking order at Anfield – so there should be no problems with the extension by Rafa Benitez.
