Canadian group Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment are believed to have ruled themselves out of taking over Wednesday, despite rumours suggesting otherwise yesterday.

The Owls had revealed to the London Stock Exchange that they had appointed financial advisors Deloitte and Touche to actively seek fresh investment in to the club over the summer amid interest from a consortium led by Geoff Sheard and links with Jon Sotnick and his group.

And it had been believed that the North American group, who own MLS side Toronto FC, as well as a team in the NBA, could well be set to make a move in to English football with the Owls.

The group had visited England last month on a ‘fact finding mission’, with Hillsborough aming the destinations on their travels, as well as Southampton and Reading.

And even more interesting, Deloitte and Touche had also been involved with MLSE, and were believed to be looking in to purchasing a club in England.

But now the group seem to have poured cold water on the idea, and have left the Sheard and Sotnick consortium’s as favourites to take over at S6 once again.
