Wednesday striker Deon Burton came off the bench to feature in Jamaica’s 6-0 defeat to England at Old Trafford today.

The former Derby County man was included in the Reggae Boyz squad after Watford’s Marlon King missed a late night curfew and was excluded from their historic match at Old Trafford.

A crowd of over 70,000 saw England tear Jamaica apart in their final preperation match before the World Cup Finals begin in Germany on Friday. Frank Lampard, Michael Owen, a Taylor own goal and a hat-trick for Peter ‘Robot’ Crouch were enough for the hosts in an atmospheric and sun drenched Old Trafford.

Burton came on to replace Shelton just after half-time but by then Jamaica were already trailing 4-0. It was all one-way traffic, and despite one half-chance, the Owls hitman rarely had a chance to give the Jamaicans some pride back.

Despite the result, it was great to see an Owls player involved in a high-profile international match, and should Deon continue his end of season form into the new campaign, surely the Jamaican’s will call on his services more often.

Former Owls loanee and potential season-long loan target Scott Carson was included on the bench for England but didn’t feature in the match.
