Wednesday boss Brian Laws has stressed he wants to keep Marcus Tudgay at S6 as Burnley look to close in on the striker.

The Clarets offered £1.5 million for the services of the Owls’ top scorer and player of the season last term, an offer which Laws believes is too low for the striker.

And Laws told the Yorkshire Post that he wants to build a team around the former Derby man next season, highlighting his importance to the team.

Laws revealed he’s held talks with Burnley boss Owen Coyle but said they’d need to offer a ‘damned sight more money than has been quoted to prise him away (from Wednesday).’

But Tudgay’s agent, former Owl Darryl Powell, has indicated that the player would like to talk to the Turf Moor side should the Owls accept their offer.

The 26-year-old insisted he’d be signed a new three-year deal with the club at the end of last season, but is still to put pen-to-paper on the contract.

This one’s going to run a while…
