Wednesday captain and jack of all trades Lee Bullen is set to secure a new deal at Hillsborough after securing the praise of boss Brian Laws.

The Scotsman is one of a number of players who are out of contract come the summer and with the 36-year-old not getting any younger it was thought the former Dunfermline player could be one to leave S6 at the end of the season.

But boss Brian Laws heaped praise on his skipper following the Owls’ superb 1-0 victory over West Brom at the Hawthornes on Friday – hinting that he could well be set for a new deal.

‘Lee is 36 and in his twilight years but he’s probably the fittest lad in the club,’ Laws told the Sheffield Star.

‘He has great experience. He throws himself into a situation, giving everything he’s got. Sometimes he may lack the attributes that some other Championship defenders have, but he makes up for that with tremendous heart.

‘He`ll give everything for Sheffield Wednesday. He was exceptionally good against West Brom.’

Bullen has been a key figure in the Owls recent run of good form which has seen them edge to within five points of the play-offs and has become somewhat of a cult hero after playing in every position for the club – including in goal.

The Edinburgh-born jack of all trades has made 88 league starts for the Owls since making the move south of the border from Dunfermline in the summer of 2004.
