Former Wednesday chairman Dave Allen was hardly the most popular person at S6 during his reign at the club, but former club captain Lee Bullen has revealed he believes he did a ‘great job’.

Bullen was allowed to leave Wednesday after his contract expired at the end of last season, and has since moved back up to Scotland after signing for Falkirk.

But, while talking about a potential takeover at S6 this summer, Bullen told the Sheffield Telegraph that he believes Allen did a great job during difficult times at Wednesday, and that his shares are key to enable a potential takeover to go ahead.

‘The fan base and the potential are so massive that it’s just right for somebody to come forward,’ he said.

‘I know football is always a gamble and there have been issues over the spread of shares. But Dave Allen has enabled any backers to get hold of 51%.

‘I had a very good relationship with him and I think he did a great job as chairman. I know he’d like to get himself out now and that he’d be all too happy to hand over the reins after going through a lot of stress.

‘Everybody has their critics but I can’t say a bad word about him. I hope he gets the right deal for himself and that, if he goes to Chesterfield, he makes a success of it.’
