Wednesday winger Chris Brunt could be on his way out of Hillsborough sooner rather than later after the club revealed discussions over a new deal have ended.

Brunt is one of a number of Owls stars with their contract up at the end of next season and Owls boss Brian Laws had revealed he is keen to pen the Northern Ireland international to a new deal at Hillsborough.

But after trying to negotiate a new deal with the winger, Wednesday have announced that they’ve ceased negotiations after what they describe to be ‘excessive wage demands’ from the youngster.

The news will come as a bitter blow to Wednesday fans after hearing right-back Frank Simek has penned a new three-year deal at Hillsborough.

And it could also mean Wednesday will try and cash in on the Belfast-born winger this season to avoid losing him for nothing next summer – with Brunt possibly leaving before the start of the season.

Brunt enjoyed a superb season for the Owls last season, and attracted the interest of a number of Premiership clubs along the way, with Fulham, West Ham and Wigan all showing an interest in the midfielder.

And now the trio could well move in to snap Brunt up on the cheap before the start of the season.
