With Monday evening’s Championship clash seeing Sheffield Wednesday host near rivals Sheffield United at Hillsborough for the all important derby clash, there’s plenty of reasons for optimism on the Owls side of the City.

With the club unbeaten since the arrival of manager Steve Bruce, he’s certainly eeking extra out of the players and we saw that again in the last match as we took victory over Brentford on Tuesday evening as striker Steven Fletcher helped himself to a brace.

Fellow forward Lucas Joao missed that game having picked up a knee injury, and Bruce has now confirmed that the nine goal 25-year-old will have to undergo a late fitness test ahead of the game to see if he’s recovered enough to play some part in the tie.

Joao is out joint top scorer along with Adam Reach so he will be a miss if he’s unavailable, and even if he’s only an option off the bench, it further boosts our hopes of a solid result.

Speaking to the Star, Brucie explained.

“Lucas could not train on Monday. “He has not been comfortable with it. He is sore. He is touch and go for Monday. We are hoping for the best.”
