Sheffield United have made a bid for Wednesday’s on-loan wing wizard Ben Marshall, according to reports.

The youngster is currently enjoying a superb loan stint at Hillsborough from Stoke City and all reports point to Marshall extending his loan deal, and signing a new contract at Stoke, within the next week.

But his performances so far this term have caught the eye of a number of clubs, not least Danny Wilson’s United who are reported to have made a bid to lure Marshall to Bramall Lane.

The Premier League side are understood to be keen to keeping Marshall at the Britannia Stadium, however, and will only loan him out to give him first-team experience.

That puts the Owls in the driving seat, especially thanks to the relationship between Owls boss Gary Megson and Stoke manager Tony Pulis, and the fact Marshall is enjoying life with the Owls.

Pulis has already aired comments that he’s keen for Marshall to remain at S6 for the rest of the season to aid his development, and although that looks likely, it’s yet to be made official.

Another of Wednesday’s npower League One rivals Huddersfield Town have already been linked with the winger this season and Wednesdayites will be keeping everything crossed that their player-of-the-season so far remains an Owl for the rest of the campaign.
