Bitter Sheffield United midfielder Nick Montgomery has hit out at Owls midfielder Chris Lines following Sunday’s Steel City derby.

Montgomery, United’s longest-serving player currently at the club, has slammed Lines for comments after the derby in the tunnel area and on social networking site Twitter.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘I’m disappointed with his comments.

‘He came out with a disrespectful comment coming down the tunnel that I heard and found it pretty immature.’

Wednesday came from 2-0 down at Bramall Lane to steal a share of the spoils thanks to late strikes from Chris O’Grady and Gary Madine.

And Lines also wound ‘Monty’ up with comments on Twitter, when he posted: ‘Great comeback today. Shows the spirit we have… deserved all three points #chances. But we’ll take the point… dominated for long periods.’

A pretty fair summary from Lines, and nothing really out of character from a player who regularly updates his followes before and after matches.

But Montgomery said: ‘To go on Twitter after the game saying he should have beaten us, I’m sure that the occasion just got to him.

‘I don’t think he’s ever played higher than League One and maybe emotions took over him.’

Nothing bitter there then, eh Monty?
