Yesterday evening Sheffield Wednesday announced that academy product Preslav Borukov had signed his first professional contract at the club.

The 18-year-old striker made the move to Hillsborough back in the summer of 2016 from PFC Levski Sofia and the Bulgarian youth international won a number of fans over with his appearances at Under 18 level and then Under 23 level when he earned that promotion.

With goals at both youth levels, he also hit a hattrick against Crewe Alexandra as he began making a name for himself. At international level he continued that form, scoring against Macedonia and Georgia at Under 18 level as well.

Reaction to the news was certainly bright amongst fans who’ve had the pleasure of seeing him in action in the season of 2017/18 and following on from the news of George Hirst’s departure for OH Leuven the other day, him signing up on professional terms has also been incredibly well timed on that front.

Speaking to the Official Site the highly rated youngster explained.

“I’m really happy and I’ve worked really hard for the two years in my scholarship. I’m happy to be a professional footballer at Sheffield Wednesday, my target now is to reach the first team.”
