Sydney FC announced on Thursday morning that it has signed Italian striker Benito Carbone on a guest player contract.
Carbone, 35, has played with illustrious clubs in some of Europe’s biggest leagues, including Inter Milan and Parma in Serie A and Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and of course Sheffield Wednesday in the English Premier League.
He has been training with Sydney for the past two weeks and will make his A-League debut against Adelaide United on Monday at Hindmarsh Stadium.
The Italian midfielder has been signed on an initial four-week guest contract but Carbone wants to replace Dwight Yorke as Sydney’s marquee player and sign a longer term contract after his four weeks are up.
Yorke left the A-League earlier in the season to return to England and play under good friend and new manager Roy Keane at Sunderland, the next opponents for the Owls.
