Wednesday defender Mark Beevers has already been linked with a host of Premiership clubs including Chelsea and Newcastle United, and now Liverpool and Everton are both showing interest according to reports.

The 18-year-old Barnsley-born centre-back has been one of the few shining lights in a disastrous season for Wednesday, breaking in to the first team and becoming arguably the first name down on the team sheet since his arrival from the youth set-up.

And his top class form, which saw him collect the Wickes Football League Apprentice of the Year for the Championship, has attracted scouts from up and down the country.

And Everton and Liverpool have both entered the race for his signature this summer according to media reports today, with a reported £3 million price tag being slapped on the youngster.

Beevers has been the brightest product to come through the Owls’ youth system for some time, and Wednesday fans would be gutted to see the back of the hot prospect.

But with relegation a real possibility going in to the Owls’ final two Championship matches of the season, and a possible takeover taking longer than expected, Beevers could well be winging his way out of Hillsborough come the summer.

Let’s hope not…
