Rumours surrounding Mark Beevers’ future at Hillsborough continued today with the news that Premiership new-boys West Brom are pondering a £3m swoop for the in-demand defender.

The hot prospect is already said to have attracted the interest of scouts from Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United.

But a move to the Baggies could be seen to be a more realistic step for the Barnsley-born centre-back who burst on to the scene to become a fans’ favourite at S6 last season.

Wednesday will be more than keen to hold on to Beevers, who came through the Wednesday youth ranks, for the forthcoming season, but could be tempted with the £3m being offered by the Baggies.

Though everything could well depend on whether Geoff Sheard and his consortium manage a takeover of the Owls before the start of the season.
