Following England’s defeat to Germany yesterday, Wednesday fans can now focus on the new season.

England were woeful, clueless and a disgrace to the country they represented, but now we can at least focus our attentions back on what really matters; Sheffield Wednesday.

Surely Alan Irvine will bring in some new faces next week to add to the captures of Daniel Jones, Jon Otsemobor, Paul Heffernan and and Chris Sedgwick.

The Owls require at least one more striker and although a target man would be the ideal acquisition, they don’t grow on trees.

The Owls currently only have Marcus Tudgay and Heffernan as recognised frontmen, but Jermaine Johnson is expected to be used up front next term.

With no money to spend on transfer fees, Irvine is having to scrap for free agents alongside other managers. Although most Owls are happy with the first batch of recruits, you would think that the next four signings that Irvine makes will be less sought after players.

The rumour mill works overtime in June and July, but there could well be a cluster of signings this week and then Wednesday fans can get back to their bread and butter, away from the misery of supporting England.
