Joey Pelupessy was criticised by supporters for his poor performance in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Barnsley, but he wasn’t the only midfielder blasted for a below-par contribution at Oakwell.
Barry Bannan was also slammed by fans after struggling to make an impact over the 90 minutes, and many hope he’ll be dropped against Luton Town on Wednesday evening.
The 30-year-old wasn’t creative and relinquished possession more than usual on Saturday. While still combative and showing for the ball, it wasn’t a vintage performance by Bannan and supporters weren’t happy.

Dawson, lees, Bannan = overrated. #swfc

Dawson won’t be dropped, he’s signed new contract and Westwood isn’t playing for us again. Can’t see Hutch playing either. Iorfa is a CB not lees and looked lost at RB. Bannan has no influence. Fesi was our best player but he got subbed. it is what it is 🤦🏻♂️ #WAWAW #swfc @swfc

Bannan, Lees, Borner, Pelupessy absolute disgraceful today #swfc

Against Barnsley, Bannan played for 90 minutes, made 51 touches, completed 76.5% of his 34 passes, had two successful dribbles, made one interception, whipped in three crosses with 33% accuracy, made five tackles and failed to create a chance.
The Scottish international has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating eight goals. He’s been a regular all season for Wednesday and is unlikely to lose his place so soon, but Monk does have the returning Massimo Luongo and Kieran Lee as potential options.
