Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that central defender Reda Johnson is set to open talks with Wednesday over a move to Hillsborough this month.

The Pilgrims have confirmed via their official website that the 22-year-old defender is set to open discussions with Wednesday imminently.

The statement, on Argyle’s official site, reads: ‘Defender RĂ©da Johnson is set to become the second Pilgrim to leave Home Park since the January transfer-window opened, with Sheffield Wednesday his probable destination.

‘The 22-year-old centre-back is scheduled to have talks with the Pilgrims’ npower League 1 rivals.’

The Home Park club are being forced to sell their top players to ease their current financial difficulties.

And Owls boss Alan Irvine looks to have taken advantage by snapping up the France-born Benin international, who was signed by former Owls boss Paul Sturrock during his time in Devon.

Irvine is keen to bolster his squad this month, especially in defence following some below-par performances of late.
