Wednesday defender Richard Wood has been slapped on the transfer market by boss Brian Laws today.

Laws is angry that Wood, one of the Owls best performers so far this season, is demanding too much money on a new contract, something the club can’t afford.

And the Owls boss has acted quickly by putting the Wakefield-born centre-back on the transfer market as Wednesday look to cash in on the 24-year-old in the January transfer window.

Wood’s current deal runs out next summer and Wednesday would prefer to sell Wood in January before losing him for nothing come the end of the season.

The contract despute has been long running, and Wood’s future at the club looked in doubt after Coventry City raised their interest in him.

A former club captain, Wood could now go out on loan with view to a permanent move in January, and is unlikely to get his place back in the Owls starting eleven.
